Keeping the Republic – Political Action Committee

The story goes that as Ben Franklin was leaving the Continental Congress at Independence Hall he came upon a woman and she asked him, “What did you give us, Dr. Franklin?” To which he replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.” The Founding Fathers were very learned men and had studied many forms of government.  They overwhelmingly favored a republic over a democracy.  The United States is a constitutional republic that purposely restrains government and democracy to limit majority rule and protect the rights of the individual. 

Why a republic and not a democracy? In a democracy, minority rights are overridden by the majority. Conversely, a republican system protects the rights of minority groups or an individual.  In a democracy, the power rests with the population, however in the case of a republic the power is in the hand of laws which are created to safeguard the interest of the people.  Democracy amounts to mobocracy which is not the case in a republic.

The Founding Fathers understood that democracy was a threat to the American republic and securing the unalienable rights of individuals.

 

Keeping the Republic

Mission statement:  To educate and empower citizens to fight for and keep a constitutional republic.

Who we are: founded in 2022 by a group of concerned citizens in Southern California as a response to the continued drift away from the original intent of the founders for our country.
